Impact

At SCHDC, our mission is dedicated to developing and managing affordable permanent and transitional homes for the elderly, the homeless, housing insecure, the formerly homeless, and those with mental illnesses or disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves access to safe, affordable, and sustainable housing. Our impact is measured not just by the number of homes we build, but by the lives we touch and the communities we transform. Here’s how we’re making a difference:

Affordable Housing

We provide affordable housing solutions to individuals and families in need. By partnering with local governments, nonprofits, and private organizations, we ensure that housing is accessible to those who need it most.

  • Number of Homes Built: 1,275+ affordable homes constructed and operating
  • Families Assisted: Over 1,000 families have found safe, affordable housing

Sustainable Development

Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond building homes. We understand that sustainable housing is better for all stakeholders – and especially our residents. We prioritize sustainable building practices in all our projects to ensure a better future for our planet, our residents, and our properties.

  • Green Building Initiatives: We have committed to a long term decarbonization plan, with the goal of eliminating fossil fuels at all of our Staten Island properties by 2035. An ambitious goal – fostered and boosted by our involvement in the NYC Carbon Challenge – one of the most ambitious carbon reduction initiatives in the United States.

Community Empowerment

We empower communities by providing resources, education, and support. Our programs are designed to uplift and strengthen the fabric of our communities.

All of SCHDC’s units provide housing for the elderly and/or special needs populations.

SCHDC locations in Manhattan are Single Occupancy (SRO) units serving formally homeless individuals who are struggling with serious mental illness (SMI) and/or substance use disorder (SUD). Upon admission, a client-centered approach actively engages residents in identifying their own need. Working with staff collaboratively, residents are able to develop their own Individualized Service Plan. This approach helps with resident investment with achieving their own goals as well as with strengthening the relationship with staff.

SCHDC utilizes the same approach with residents in their Vincent’s Village location. This project has ESSHI units that houses the Frail Elderly population. Of those units, several are domestic violence survivors. Our residents have been traumatized, not been able to successfully live independently and due to aging, are experiencing ever changing needs. Many are not just struggling with life-changing medical conditions, but are also struggling with mental illness.

Our Vision for the Future

As we look to the future, we remain committed to expanding our impact. Our vision includes:

  • Increasing Affordable Housing: Building 1,000 additional affordable homes in the next five to ten years
  • Enhancing Sustainability: Achieving high level green certification for all new projects – envisioning and striving for net-zero wherever possible.
  • Strengthening Communities: Launching new community programs to address emerging needs

Join us in making a difference. Together, we can build a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
